Maintain Your Kitchen Ladies With Hazari’s

Cooking is considered as a type of art or a skill and for any art or skill you need tools. Like brush is to painter, like hammer is to handyman, like pen is to writer similarly the knife is to the chef. The people, who love being in kitchen to cook, know that the most important tool in the kitchen is knife.

A nice kitchen knife set may cost you a hefty amount, but it'll reward you with the easiest chopping experience in your culinary life. But even good knives get dull if not taken care of properly. Not only are dull knives difficult to work with and not fun to cook with, but they are also dangerous.

Also with Eid-Ul-Adha nearing us, we don’t want to spend too much time in the kitchen trying to cut the meat with a dull knife that would be life fighting with a plastic sword, completely useless. So along with the VictorinoxHazari’s knife set Hazari’s also brings you ground rules to follow for the maintenance of your kitchen ladies:

  1. Sharpen them rare and hone them when you need themTo keep that sharp edge, hone your knives before every use. There may be a temptation to sharpen your knives regularly but aim to sharpen your knives once or twice a year since it’s a bit more complicated.
  2.  Wash them immediately with hands after every use: This may sound too obvious but it is absolutely necessary to wash your knives as soon as you finish using them before getting absorbed in your culinary creativity.
  3. Dry them with clothTo minimize the chance of your knife blade getting rusted, wipe it dry with a cloth right after you wash it. That will also allow you to put it into a safe place right afterwards, instead of having to wait for it to dry.
  4. Hang them in a block or on a magnetic stripSturdy wood block is the best home for your knives as it protects the blades from dirt and also minimizes clashing among the knives or between them with other objects in the kitchen. Keeping them on a magnetic strip may also be a good idea.
  5. Use cutting boards at all timeA cutting board is the best companion for your blades. Your cutting board should not be made of any material that is harder than the knife itself. Cutting boards are affordable. Use them!
  6. Don’t leave them in kitchen sink: Not only is it dangerous for whoever does the dishes for the knife to be kept in sink along with other dishes but it is also bad for the knife blade as it can get scratched or worse the tip can bend or break. To prevent that as soon as you finish using the knife, wash it, dry it and put it in a safe place.
  7. Don’t store them in the utensil drawer: Don’t put the knives in a drawer: they can rub against other items and get chipped and even when there is nothing else in there, the movements caused by pulling and pushing of the drawer can still be harmful to the knives. If you really want to store them there, make sure to use a cover to protect the blade.
  8. Don’t cut on your counter topYou should not chop directly on your granite or marble countertop or any countertop for that matter as clashing on a hard surface like granite or metal can easily ruin the knife and dull it extremely quickly. This is definitely not any way to treat your knives.
  9. Don’t use the wrong block for the knife: By wrong block we mean a wooden knife block where the knife rests on the sharp edge can blunt the knife. By storing the blade at a high angle a good knife blocks avoid this. Choose wisely!
  10. Don’t leave your knives to dry outNo matter how much may it tempting to stack your knives on the draining board or in rack with your other utensils, DON’T! Since this may lead to nicks in the blade, early corrosion or a buildup of mould and mildew.
